When Should I see a Specialist?
In children, Dr.Antosz has found over decades of practice, working with growth can correct many orthodontic problems before they require complex treatment. Growth correction can prevent the need for jaw surgery. Extraction of permanent teeth can be avoided in many cases. The key is early assessment (7-8yrs) so that care can be delivered at the optimal time.
There are many circumstances where some relatively minor treatment at a younger age (before growth is complete and permanent teeth are in) can make any future orthodontic care simpler and far less invasive. This interceptive treatment does not make overall care more expensive. Our fees are structured such that whether we correct a particular problem in two(2) stages or all at once in an older individual, the final cost is about the same.
Still, not all children are candidates for early orthodontic treatment; there are some cases that are best left until the child is older. We base our decision on each individual, what is best for their health and, at the same time, what is most cost-effective for the parent. This can become confusing for the family because they don't know when to see the orthodontist. Therefore, for your peace of mind, early childhood assessment in our office is complimentary. This will give us the chance to determine the optimal time to begin treatment, as well as give you a chance to learn about treatment options.
Regardless of when orthodontic treatment begins, our focus is on improving growth, keeping permanent teeth and ensuring proper jaw function. This allows us to create healthy bites and great smiles efficiently and effectively.
Adults may have different objectives for seeking orthodontic treatment. Many seek orthodontic care to improve the appearance of their smile or to make cleaning easier, or perhaps realign teeth before major dental work is accomplished. Age is not a factor. Teeth can be moved in adults of all ages.
At antoszOrthodontics you will find a true orthodontic specialist in Dr. Antosz and his entire team.
